Updates from MakerCraft Studio - July 29 - WE ARE OPEN!

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are open! We got our occupancy permit last week and had a soft opening retreat this past weekend. It went really well, and we got lots of great feedback.

On Saturday, July 20, our friends the Dapper Scrappers helped us move all our furniture from storage.

Toni, Patti, and Joe spent most of the week working long hours to finish painting and to organize the space. Gail, Rob, Cass, Patti, Cass, and Toni put in a long day Wednesday to get ready for our retreaters, who arrived Thursday morning. We hosted 9 quilters for 4 days.

Here are some photos we took of the space in action. Our crafters loved the open, light-filled space. The rolling chairs were a hit, and all of the attendees remarked on how good the lighting is.

We enjoyed preparing meals in the well-equipped kitchen, and everyone took advantage of the comfy seating downstairs.

Everyone except Cass and Patti got a private room, and the reviews were that the beds are super comfy.

Several of us took advantage of the comfy seating upstairs too.

The downstairs bath worked well for everyone and the shower head in that bathroom is awesome. We also used one of the full baths upstairs. The remaining bath still needs to be renovated.

If you're interested in booking a retreat, you can read about the space here: https://makercraftstudio.com/the-space/ and search availability on this page: https://makercraftstudio.com/booking/

We still have some things to finish in the space, and during the retreat this weekend, we compiled an Amazon Wish List of things we still need. If you'd like to donate, we'd appreciate anything you have. You don't need to buy from the List. Look around your house and if you have something we can use, we'd gratefully accept it.

Please ship items to Patti's house. If you need the address, ask us.

You can see our classes (and register for them) on this page: https://makercraftstudio.com/classes Classes will begin in August. If you have a class request, please send us a message. Note that the number of spaces in each class is limited, so if you are interested, we advise signing up early!

If you want to take more than one class on the weekend of Aug 23-25, consider spending the night! We are offering the chance to save yourself time driving back and forth from home; just spend the night. You can continue working on the class project after class ends (or another project of your choice) and you'll be ready for class the next day. Details on the Classes page of our website.

We know that some of our supporters are not local or may not be interested in taking classes, so we are going to create a new mailing list for class updates. We'll send you a list of upcoming classes once a month.

To sign up on that list, please use this form: https://makercraft-studio.ck.page/92f47afc9e Until we open, we will continue to send info about classes to this bigger list.

Thank you again for all your support!

Dear friends and supporters, Although we are open, there is still work to do on the Center. We need to finish installing the appliances in the upstairs kitchen, renovate one of the bathrooms, complete the porch, and do touch-up painting -- among other things. So work continues :). We have compiled an Amazon Wish List of things we still need. If you'd like to donate, we'd appreciate anything you have. You don't need to buy from the List. Dear Friends and Supporters, Things are really moving along! Drywall has been installed, and painting of the first floor is almost complete. Our contractor, Eddie, and his crew stayed after finishing the drywall to help us paint the large space downstairs, while Patti, Joe, and Hanna painted the downstairs bedrooms, bathroom, and hallway. Eddie's wife Ruth is painting the trim in the main room. We think the black and white is stunning in that space, but we also love our colorful bedrooms....

Dear Friends and Supporters, We are excited to let you know that we passed our insulation inspection and drywall has begun! We don't have a lot of photos to share this time because the only visible change has been installation of drywall. Rob, Joe, and Patti first started by installing vapor barrier and then drywall went up. This week, they are taping and mudding the drywall. The addition of drywall has made a huge difference in the feel of the space -- it's getting real! Among the "hidden"...
