Hi, everyone, So much accomplished in the past month! Patti retired from her "day job" on April 1! Patti and Joe traveled to Texas for the eclipse (saw some of it... it was cloudy), and for a long-overdue visit with her family. While they were gone, Rob continued work downstairs and replaced the windows on the first level. So much more light now! New window! Outside of new window Gail and Toni worked on painting the trim in the living room upstairs. Gail (left) and Toni Living room trim color...

Since we got the building permit, so much work has been happening! The electrician has been running new wiring all over the building. New wiring The guys at Dapper Scrapper cleaned out the back room on the first floor and demo'ed the old first-floor bathroom. We recommend them highly! Professional work at a reasonable price. Back room - Before Back room - After Tristan from Dapper Scrapper working on demo'ing the old bathroom Old bathroom - gone! Rob framed out the ADA-accessible new bathroom...

We have gotten the building permit! This is a BIG step, and our electrician is already hard at work. Here he is installing lots of floor outlets. Rob and Joe have been working on the porch. They repaired water damage, raised up the whole porch to fix its sagging (we have new period columns to replace the old 4 x 4's), painted new floor boards, and replaced the old roof with a lovely green metal roof. Patti and Cass attended QuiltCon last week in Raleigh, NC, where we got a chance to learn,...

It's been a few weeks since we've shared news, but things have been moving along! We are awaiting the issuance of our final permit: a building permit. We expect it any time. Until we get that, our major systems contractors cannot get to work. However, we are doing what we can while we're waiting. Joe finished taking down the old ceiling in the main first-floor space. That was a BIG job. Rob has started rebuilding the front porch, including ordering some lovely period columns to replace the 4...

We have significant news to share: This week, we received our Land Use Permit from the Boro. This is a BIG step forward in conquering the red tape. We have one more round of permits to obtain, but this was a big step forward -- and we couldn't have done it without lots of work by Rob, who is acting as our General Contractor! This coming weekend, we will start painting upstairs. It's getting real! Cass and Patti are making quilts for all the bedrooms. Our plan is to paint the walls a neutral...

We hope you all had an enjoyable holiday. We took a break to spend time with our family and loved ones, but we are back at it over at Ophelia. The big news is that we have figured out a way forward to build the required parking lot, so we have submitted our Land Use Permit to the Mont Alto Boro, which is the next step in the regulatory process. Meanwhile, the tin ceiling in the main space is almost totally removed. It took Joe quite a while because we are trying to save as much of it as...

Work has slowed at the Studio in the past 2 weeks. We continue to work on taking down the old ceiling and prepping the walls for painting. However, regulations require that we put in a paved parking lot and it's a large expense we did not budget for. Until we have a plan for meeting that requirement, the Borough will not give us the needed permit to proceed with work. We met with our surveyor last night and formed a plan to move forward. However, with the holidays, it may take some time....

Dear Reader, We've been working hard over at the building. Last weekend, Patti stripped wallpaper, Cass sorted through the many, many papers we found while cleaning out, and Rob and Joe continued work to take down the old ceiling. Yesterday, Rob and Joe continued work on the ceiling and removed the shelving on the wall while Patti and Cass washed and patched the walls. This week, our contractors covered the old floors and repaired some of the plumbing. Last night was Mont Alto's Christmas...

The team worked at Ophelia yesterday and got a lot done. We met with electrical, HVAC, and flooring contractors. We chose lighting for the main space and downstairs bedrooms, and we approved the electrical and HVAC plans. We chose our floor and wall colors: Floor and wall color in Sewing space We stripped wallpaper: Before After After Joe cleaned out the area under the outside stairs (forgot to take a photo!). He also cleaned out the shed this week (our Dumpster is getting full!). And, we...
