Updates from MakerCraft Studio - March 4

We have gotten the building permit! This is a BIG step, and our electrician is already hard at work. Here he is installing lots of floor outlets.

Rob and Joe have been working on the porch. They repaired water damage, raised up the whole porch to fix its sagging (we have new period columns to replace the old 4 x 4's), painted new floor boards, and replaced the old roof with a lovely green metal roof.

Patti and Cass attended QuiltCon last week in Raleigh, NC, where we got a chance to learn, gather ideas, network, and shop! Here's video Patti recorded that shows how big that event was!

Patti and Cass have also been busy sewing for the space. We spent this past weekend at a retreat where Cass worked on two quilt tops for the bedrooms, and Patti made the top for a wallhanging and most of a shower curtain for one of the bathrooms.

We have gotten even more donations from friends and supporters, and we can't tell you how much that means to us! If you'd like to help, check out our "wish list" on our website (www.makercraftstudio.com). If you'd like to donate money (either as an outright donation or as prepayment for a future class or retreat stay), you can mail us a check (payable to MakerCraft Studio) to the address at the bottom of this email, or we accept PayPal at info@makercraftstudio.com.

This week, more electrical work will be happening, and Rob will begin framing the new bathroom. We are clearing the back room on the lower floor so that Rob can start framing the rooms back there.

Thank you again for all the support you've shown us!

Dear Friends and Supporters, Things are really moving along! Drywall has been installed, and painting of the first floor is almost complete. Our contractor, Eddie, and his crew stayed after finishing the drywall to help us paint the large space downstairs, while Patti, Joe, and Hanna painted the downstairs bedrooms, bathroom, and hallway. Eddie's wife Ruth is painting the trim in the main room. We think the black and white is stunning in that space, but we also love our colorful bedrooms....

Dear Friends and Supporters, We are excited to let you know that we passed our insulation inspection and drywall has begun! We don't have a lot of photos to share this time because the only visible change has been installation of drywall. Rob, Joe, and Patti first started by installing vapor barrier and then drywall went up. This week, they are taping and mudding the drywall. The addition of drywall has made a huge difference in the feel of the space -- it's getting real! Among the "hidden"...

Dear Friends and Supporters, You haven't heard much from us, because what we've been doing isn't very exciting -- but it's crucial work! The most visible accomplishment was Rob getting our new columns placed on the rebuilt front porch! With our friend Toni's help, the columns and the front door got a first coat of paint. Patti started scraping around the windows on the front of the building. The primary activity over the past two weeks has been insulation installation! All four of us have...
