Updates from MakerCraft Studio - July 14

Dear Friends and Supporters, Things are really moving along! Drywall has been installed, and painting of the first floor is almost complete. Our contractor, Eddie, and his crew stayed after finishing the drywall to help us paint the large space downstairs, while Patti, Joe, and Hanna painted the downstairs bedrooms, bathroom, and hallway. Eddie's wife Ruth is painting the trim in the main room. We think the black and white is stunning in that space, but we also love our colorful bedrooms....

Dear Friends and Supporters, We are excited to let you know that we passed our insulation inspection and drywall has begun! We don't have a lot of photos to share this time because the only visible change has been installation of drywall. Rob, Joe, and Patti first started by installing vapor barrier and then drywall went up. This week, they are taping and mudding the drywall. The addition of drywall has made a huge difference in the feel of the space -- it's getting real! Among the "hidden"...

Dear Friends and Supporters, You haven't heard much from us, because what we've been doing isn't very exciting -- but it's crucial work! The most visible accomplishment was Rob getting our new columns placed on the rebuilt front porch! With our friend Toni's help, the columns and the front door got a first coat of paint. Patti started scraping around the windows on the front of the building. The primary activity over the past two weeks has been insulation installation! All four of us have...

Dear Supporter, This past week, we passed an electrical and framing inspection for the first floor. Yay! So, that means it was time for insulation installation. Yesterday, Patti, Cass, Gail, and Toni (yay, girl-power!) spent the day installing insulation in the walls on the first floor rooms. We still have to do the ceiling on the first floor, but we made good progress! This week, we'll be working on laying the floor in the downstairs kitchen and electrical work will move upstairs. Classes!...

If you are not local or don't have any interest in taking quilting classes at the Studio, you can disregard this email. Cass and Patti are beginning to plan classes we'd like to offer at MakerCraft. These would be QUILTING classes (don't worry, we'll be offering other classes too). We need to hear from you! When do you want to take classes? Do you have interest in the classes we are considering offering? We've prepared a survey to get feedback from you. Please note that many of these proposed...

Hi, everyone, So much accomplished in the past month! Patti retired from her "day job" on April 1! Patti and Joe traveled to Texas for the eclipse (saw some of it... it was cloudy), and for a long-overdue visit with her family. While they were gone, Rob continued work downstairs and replaced the windows on the first level. So much more light now! New window! Outside of new window Gail and Toni worked on painting the trim in the living room upstairs. Gail (left) and Toni Living room trim color...

Since we got the building permit, so much work has been happening! The electrician has been running new wiring all over the building. New wiring The guys at Dapper Scrapper cleaned out the back room on the first floor and demo'ed the old first-floor bathroom. We recommend them highly! Professional work at a reasonable price. Back room - Before Back room - After Tristan from Dapper Scrapper working on demo'ing the old bathroom Old bathroom - gone! Rob framed out the ADA-accessible new bathroom...

We have gotten the building permit! This is a BIG step, and our electrician is already hard at work. Here he is installing lots of floor outlets. Rob and Joe have been working on the porch. They repaired water damage, raised up the whole porch to fix its sagging (we have new period columns to replace the old 4 x 4's), painted new floor boards, and replaced the old roof with a lovely green metal roof. Patti and Cass attended QuiltCon last week in Raleigh, NC, where we got a chance to learn,...
